Cooriemungle - Apostle Whey Cheese

Apostle Whey Cheese is a family-owned dairy farm, artisan cheese producer and farmgate attraction located near the Great Ocean Road. Visitors can sample award-winning cheeses and gelato while learning about the journey from the farm’s cows to the finished products.

The single-origin dairy was established by Julian and Dianne Benson in 2005. Its cheese, milk and gelato are produced using milk from the farm’s Friesian-Jersey herd.

Visitors can usually watch the cows being milked at 4pm each day and may see newborn calves during the calving seasons. Cheese is made by hand on the farm, providing an opportunity to observe different stages of the paddock-to-plate process.

The farmgate café serves cheese platters, toasties, coffee, gelato and milkshakes made using milk from the farm. Cheese and gelato tastings are also available, along with tastings of Apostle Whey Gin for adults.

Farm Tours:

Bookable weekday farm tours provide a behind-the-scenes look at the dairy and cheese-making operation. The approximately two-hour experience can include the cheese-making facilities, dairy, cow milking and the “mooternity ward” where calves are born. Tours generally include tastings and refreshments and must be booked in advance.

Children should be supervised because this is a working dairy farm.
