Cohuna - Spences Bridge Forest Drive

Spences Bridge Forest Drive is a self-guided narrated drive through Gunbower State Forest, taking visitors to nine sites among the magnificent river red gum forest. The interpretation covers the history of the local timber industry, Aboriginal heritage, wetlands and the natural environment of Gunbower Island.

The drive starts at Spences Bridge Road near Cohuna and finishes at the twin bridges on the outskirts of Koondrook.

Visitors can listen to the commentary while travelling. The commentary can be downloaded free from SoundCloud.

The drive provides an easy way to explore Gunbower State Forest and learn more about the area's cultural and environmental history without needing to undertake a long walk. Wildlife such as kangaroos and a wide variety of birds may also be encountered in the surrounding forest.

Opening Hours:

The drive can be undertaken when the forest roads and tracks forming the route are open. Check current forest and road closures before travelling. Gunbower Island is prone to flooding and access can be restricted, particularly during environmental watering and wet conditions.
