Cohuna - Gunbower Island Forest Drive

Gunbower Island Forest Drive is a leisurely half-day self-guided drive through Gunbower National Park and Gunbower State Forest. The drive starts in Cohuna and explores the forests and wetlands of Gunbower Island, which lies between the Murray River and Gunbower Creek.

The route passes through impressive River Red Gum and Black Box forests and links a number of historical, cultural and ecological sites. Highlights specifically identified on the drive include the experimental nursery and Graham's Hut. There are also picturesque places along the route suitable for stopping for a picnic.

A map and explanatory notes for the drive are available from the Gateway to Gannawarra Visitor Centre in Cohuna. Numbered or corresponding markers along the route are used with the notes to help visitors explore the history and environment of the forest.

Rainfall and high river levels can affect parts of Gunbower Island and access to some areas may be restricted. Check the Gunbower National Park conditions before setting out.
