Cape Bridgewater - Freshwater Springs Walk

The Freshwater Springs Walk follows a spectacular section of the Great South West Walk along the western side of Cape Bridgewater. The walk leads from the Blowholes car park through exposed coastal scenery to freshwater pools near the base of the cliffs.

Rainwater drains through the porous limestone covering Cape Bridgewater before emerging from the edge of the cliffs as freshwater springs. The water collects in natural pools only a short distance from the Southern Ocean.

During the early years of European settlement, fresh water was scarce in the area. A stone ramp was constructed down the cliff so cattle could be driven or led to the freshwater pools.

The walk also offers views across the wild coastline of Discovery Bay Coastal Park. Other attractions at the starting point include the Blowholes and the limestone formations traditionally known as the Petrified Forest.
