Camperdown - Mockridge Park Velodrome

The Camperdown Velodrome is an outdoor asphalt cycling track at Mockridge Park. The oval track has gently banked bends and surrounds a playing field used for hockey and soccer.

The venue opened around 1964 as Russell Mockridge Park and Cycling Track. It was named in honour of celebrated Australian cyclist Russell Mockridge, who won two gold medals at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games and was killed while competing in a road race in 1958.

The velodrome has been used by the Camperdown Cycling Club for training and racing. The club continues to promote cycling and junior rider development in the district.

The facilities and cycling surface have deteriorated over time. Corangamite Shire Council has proposed resealing the velodrome as part of a wider redevelopment of Mockridge Park but continues to seek funding for the project. Riders should inspect the surface and ride according to the conditions rather than treating it as a refurbished competition-standard track.

The outdoor track is generally accessible during daylight hours when it is not being used for organised sport or maintenance. Observe any signs or temporary closures at the reserve.
