Camperdown - Lake Bullen Merri South Beach

Lake Bullen Merri South Beach is a popular recreation area on the southern shore of a 450-hectare volcanic crater lake. The lake’s distinctive clover-like shape was formed by three adjoining volcanic craters, while its shoreline features dark volcanic sand.

Fishing and Boating:

Lake Bullen Merri is stocked with salmon and trout and offers fishing from the volcanic sandy shoreline, jetty, accessible fishing platform or a boat. Fish species include rainbow trout, brown trout, Chinook salmon, Atlantic salmon and Australian bass.

The South Beach boat ramp was substantially upgraded with grooved concrete ramp panels, a central pontoon, non-slip grating, an improved approach and turning circle, and an underwater retaining wall designed to reduce waves and sediment around the ramp.

Swimming:

Swimming is permitted when water quality and conditions are suitable. There are no lifesaving services, so enter the water at your own risk and supervise children closely.

Blue-green algae can periodically affect the lake. Check and obey all warning signs and avoid contact with the water when a warning is displayed.
