AROUND BUCHAN
1. Buchan Town Centre
Stroll the main street enjoying the heritage shop fronts laying at the feet of rolling hills. Snuggle into a warm café or hearty pub meal.
2. 3. Buchan Caves & Reserve
Stand below a mesmerising latticework of towers deep underground at the Buchan Caves on a guided tour. Advance bookings are necessary. Venture above ground to the scenic Buchan Caves Reserve, where there are a number of short ambles and longer hikes, and leafy picnic areas alongside the tranquil Buchan River.
4. Buchan River Swing Bridge
Cross the Buchan River on the graceful Swing Bridge then soak up the riverside relaxation with a picnic or a spot of fishing.
5. The Bluff Reserve
A scenic location where a large granite rock face looms above the Buchan River, just 1km north of town. It's a tranquil picnic area any time of year, or a great place to swim if the weather's hot.
EAST BUCHAN
6. Basin Creek Falls Walk
2.6km, 1 hour return
This out-and-back walk follows a steep track to the base of Basin Creek Falls, where you'll find a stream of water shooting down the single span waterfall. While the descent is steep, the walk through heavily forested bush is divine, at times opening out to dreamy vistas over the Snowy River far below. At the base of the falls there is a grassy clearing and picnic tables with tranquil views over the Snowy.
7. One Tree Hill
Pack a picnic and soak up the views across Buchan township and sumptuous rolling hills. There is a picnic table and a firepit with grill, perfect for cooking a few snags.
8. Balley Hooley
Known locally as 'The Junction', Balley Hooley marks the meeting place of the Buchan River with the mighty Snowy River. It's a place of utter relaxation, with picnic and camping areas. There is easy access to the river for fishing, rafting, kayaking and swimming.
THE NORTHERN SNOWY
9. W Tree Falls
Amidst perfumed bush you'll find the 20m waterfall where water cascades down two tiers to the bottom.
10. Tulloch Ard Gorge Walk
3.2km, 1 hour return
Pass through tall mountain grey gum forest, arriving at a viewing platform revealing gob-smacking views over mountain ranges and a deep gorge, cut by the mighty Snowy River. The rocky path has steep sections.
11. Seldom Seen 4x4s only
The detour rewards with spectacular 360° panoramas over the immense mountain ranges of the High Country.
12. Wulgulmerang Rec Reserve
13. Suggan Buggan
Surrounded completely by Alpine National Park, this is a place of magnificent views and deep wilderness and is also the site of an historic schoolhouse. There is a camp area with picnic tables, fireplaces and a toilet along Suggan Buggan Creek.
14. 15. Little River Falls & Gorge
It's an easy walk from the car park to the Little River Falls. For those with a good level of fitness, you can take the steep descent to the base of the falls. Drive south for 3km then prepare to be amazed as you look over the Little River Gorge. At 600m deep, it is Victoria's deepest gorge. Little by name, but certainly not by nature.
16. McKillops Bridge 4x4s only
The vertical drop along McKillops Rd affords breathtaking views before reaching the expansive McKillops Bridge. This is the start of a popular 3-4 day paddling trip, ending at Balley Hooley.

The tour starts in the Buchan Town Centre, Main Road, Buchan and explores locations east and north of Buchan.

The tour is free to follow. Fees apply for guided tours of Buchan Caves and may apply for camping or other services.
