Bells Beach - Wadawurrung Cultural Walk

The 1km return Yirripa Yan (Wadawurrung Cultural Walk) is a short but rewarding clifftop walk that combines spectacular coastal scenery with an insight into the rich Aboriginal heritage of the Surf Coast. Formerly known as the Point Addis Koorie Cultural Walk, it is one of Victoria's best Indigenous interpretive walks.

Beginning at the Point Addis car park, the walk follows a well-formed track through coastal heath to a series of lookouts overlooking the dramatic coastline of Point Addis Marine National Park. Along the way, interpretive signs developed with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners explain how Aboriginal people have lived with and cared for this coastline for thousands of years.

The signs describe traditional uses of local plants, hunting and gathering practices, seasonal movements, and the cultural significance of the surrounding landscape. The walk provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the continuing connection of the Wadawurrung People to Country while enjoying one of the Surf Coast's most spectacular viewpoints.

The elevated lookouts offer sweeping views over towering limestone cliffs, rocky reefs, secluded beaches and the Southern Ocean. During winter and spring, migrating southern right whales can sometimes be spotted offshore, while seabirds are commonly seen soaring along the cliffs.

Although relatively short, the walk includes some stairs and gentle climbs, making it suitable for most visitors with a reasonable level of fitness.

Tip: Visit around low tide to combine the walk with a visit to the rock platforms and beach below.
