Bells Beach - Point Addis Beach

Point Addis Beach is one of the Surf Coast's most spectacular and unspoilt beaches, lying within the Point Addis Marine National Park. Surrounded by towering ochre-coloured cliffs, native coastal heath and pristine ocean views, it offers a striking contrast to the more developed beaches at Torquay and Anglesea. The beach is popular with surfers, walkers, photographers and anyone seeking a quieter coastal experience.
The long sandy beach stretches between Point Addis and Southside Beach, providing plenty of space for beach walking and exploring. The colourful cliffs are among the geological highlights of the Surf Coast, displaying layers of sandstone and iron-rich sediments that glow in shades of red, orange and yellow, particularly in the late afternoon sun.
Point Addis Beach is connected to several walking tracks, including sections of the Surf Coast Walk and trails leading to nearby lookouts. The elevated Point Addis Lookout provides panoramic views over the beach, surrounding cliffs and Bass Strait, and is one of the best whale-watching locations on the Surf Coast during the annual migration season.
Unlike many nearby beaches, Point Addis retains a natural, undeveloped feel. Visitors are encouraged to appreciate the area's outstanding coastal scenery while helping to protect its fragile dune system and native vegetation by remaining on designated tracks.
Surf Safety
Point Addis Beach is an unpatrolled ocean beach with powerful surf, strong rip currents and rapidly changing conditions. It is best suited to experienced surfers and confident beach users familiar with ocean conditions. There are no lifesaving patrols, so visitors should carefully assess conditions before entering the water. Swimming is generally not recommended except in calm conditions, and anyone entering the water should be aware of the risks posed by rips and large waves.
Facilities include a free car park, public toilets, viewing platforms, beach access stairs, Surf Coast Walk access, walking tracks, picnic tables, information signs and whale watching (seasonal).
