Bells Beach Lookout

Bells Beach Lookout is one of Australia's most famous coastal viewpoints, overlooking the legendary surf break that has made Bells Beach an icon of world surfing. Set high above the beach within the Bells Beach Surfing Recreation Reserve, the lookout offers sweeping views across the rugged sandstone cliffs, the Southern Ocean and the powerful waves that have attracted surfers from around the world for decades.

A large sealed car park provides easy access to the lookout, with well-maintained viewing platforms positioned above Bells Beach and nearby Winki Pop. The elevated vantage point is ideal for watching experienced surfers tackle the famous breaks, photographing the dramatic coastline or simply enjoying the ever-changing ocean views. During the annual Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, the lookout becomes one of the best places to watch the world's top surfers compete in the longest-running professional surfing competition in the world.

Interpretive signs explain the history and environmental significance of the reserve, while walking tracks connect the lookout with the Surf Coast Walk, Winki Pop and Point Addis. A long staircase descends from the lookout to the beach below, providing access for surfers and beachgoers. Visitors should remain behind safety barriers and exercise caution near cliff edges, particularly during strong winds or wet weather.

Even if the surf is quiet, the lookout is well worth visiting for its magnificent coastal views and the chance to experience one of the Great Ocean Road's most iconic locations.
