Beechworth - Lake Sambell to Lake Kerferd Walk
The Lake Sambell to Lake Kerferd Walk is a 10 km return walk through the eucalypt forests of Beechworth Historic Park. The Grade 3 route begins near Lake Sambell and follows forest tracks to Lake Kerferd, passing remnants of Beechworth's gold-mining landscape.
Look for evidence of former mining and tunnelling beside the track. Numerous old mine shafts are located throughout the area. Some are covered with wire mesh while others may remain open, so walkers should stay on the designated trail and children must be closely supervised.
Wildlife which may be encountered includes koalas, wombats, wallabies and woodland birds.
Lake Kerferd is part of Beechworth's water supply. Fishing for Redfin and Golden Perch is permitted, but swimming and boating are not allowed.
