Beech Forest - Beauchamp Falls
The 2.5km (1-2 hours) return walk leaves from the Beauchamp Falls Campground picnic area and takes you to the spectacular 20m waterfall. Walkers will enjoy scenic views of mountain ash, myrtle beech, blackwoods and lush tree ferns on the walking track which winds along the cool and tranquil waters of Deppeler Creek. The track is fairly well made and maintained (a little washed away) with many steps.
A good fitness level is required as the return trip is all uphill and around 200 steps. The area is beautiful and has plenty of tree ferns and mossy trees and look out for fungi, especially in the wetter months.
When you get to the falls area the track branches. There is a metal rail to provide assistance to get down to the river level with views of the falls from below or continue on to the upper lookout.
The Beauchamp Falls Campground picnic area has a carpark, free camping sites, toilets, firepits, shelter with two tables and seven unshaded tables.
Directions:
Head towards Colac along the Princes Freeway. In Colac turn left onto Colac-Beech Forest Rd/Colac-Lavers Hill Rd. Continue to follow Colac-Beech Forest Rd. At Fegerson turn left onto Beech Forest-Lavers Rd, continue along here till you reach Aire Valley Road/Binns Road, just past Beechs Forest. Turn Right onto Aire Valley Road/Binns Road and proceed for approx 2km until the turnoff to Beauchamp Falls Road. Follow this road until the carpark. The road can be very rutted so drive slowly.
Access for Dogs:
Dogs are permitted on leash.
