Bark Hut Reserve Playground, Inlet Court, Aireys Inlet

A bit of history with play. The main structure has a wave slide, fireman's pole, tunnel, steps, shop front, rope net ladder, steering wheel, cubby seat, curved walkway, rope spiders web climbing frame, speak and listen system and monkey bars. Adorned with some paintings.

Also two swings, fish and pelican springers (given the danger of putting a fish next to a pelican, by tomorrow it might only be a pelican remaining), stand-on spinner and hammock.

In 1852, Geelong butchers, Thomas Pearse and Robert McConachy purchased the Anglohawk cattle station which ran from this side of Painkalac Creek back towards Anglesea. Initially they built a slab house, a stone shed and 2 bark huts near here. This hut is a replica of one of the huts which survived until 1983 when it was destroyed by a bushfire.

A cairn near the lighthouse marks the burial site of Thomas Pearse and his wife, Martha.
