Auburn Bowls Club (Hawthorn East)

The club was formed in 1886. It has had a long history in Boroondara being originally established as a form of recreation for his employees by Augustus Fritsch of the Fristch-Holzer brickworks in Hawthorn.

The club is ideally located in the heart of Hawthorn East close to public transport and local shopping villages.

Our club rooms are available for hire for functions with the option of an afternoon or evening of barefoot bowls with friends, family and/or workmates.

Competitive Bowls

Auburn Bowls Club has a long history of Competitive Lawn Bowls and we continue to strive to excel at every event we enter.

Auburn Bowls Club competes in the Bowls Victoria Metro Pennant competitions, with three teams participating in Saturday Pennant and one team in Midweek Pennant. Our two bowling greens; tiff dwarf grass and Tiger Synthetic, we have members bowling most days of the week, with enough space to accommodate "barefoot bowls" and school groups.

In the winter months we have team/s in Yarra Region Inner City Winter Pennant Saturday competition - which are a more relaxed opportunity to play in a competitive environment.

Auburn Bowls Club also hosts two major tournaments each year. A Triples Tournament held in August/September each year. The second tournament we host is our Labour Day Fours, on Labour Day in March each year.

Barefoot Bowls

We have limited seasons of barefoot bowls sessions on Wednesday evenings in summer. You are welcome to book bare foot bowls for a group.

We can accommodate groups from 2 to 60 bowlers at any one time, larger groups can rotate bowlers with a maximum of 8 bowlers per rink at any one time.

Prior bookings is preferred. Small casual/walk in groups can be accommodated subject to green availability.

When you arrive we will make sure you are instructed in the basics of the game and, importantly, the safety aspects of barefoot lawn bowls to make sure your experience and those of our other guests is a safe and enjoyable.

We are fully licensed (no BYO) with a great range of popular beverages at discounted prices. We practice the responsible serving of alcohol.

You MUST wear flat soled shoes, thongs or go barefoot to bowls (just no heels). Please dress appropriately and make sure you wear sun-smart clothes and sunscreen as necessary. No drinking or smoking on the greens
