Anglesea - Point Roadknight Beach
Point Roadknight Beach is one of the safest and most family-friendly beaches on the Surf Coast. Sheltered by Point Roadknight, the beach is protected from much of the ocean swell, creating calm, shallow waters that are ideal for swimming, paddling, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. Its gentle conditions make it a favourite destination for families with young children and visitors looking for a relaxing day by the sea.
The broad sandy beach curves around a sheltered bay, offering plenty of space for swimming, beach games and picnics. At low tide, shallow rock pools appear along the shoreline, providing opportunities to discover small marine creatures. The clear, calm water is also popular with snorkellers, while the beach's sheltered conditions make it one of the best places on the Surf Coast for beginner paddleboarders and kayakers.
Point Roadknight is surrounded by attractive coastal scenery, with low cliffs, native vegetation and excellent views across Bass Strait. The beach is connected to nearby walking tracks, making it easy to combine a visit with a walk to Anglesea Main Beach or the surrounding lookouts.
Unlike many Surf Coast beaches that are renowned for large surf, Point Roadknight offers a peaceful alternative where visitors can safely enjoy the water in calmer conditions.
Facilities include a large free car park, public toilets, outdoor showers, seasonal lifesaving patrols, picnic tables, grassed picnic areas, beach access paths and Surf Coast Walk access.
Surf Safety
Point Roadknight Beach is patrolled by the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club during the summer patrol season. Thanks to the protection provided by Point Roadknight, the beach experiences much smaller waves than nearby Anglesea Main Beach and is widely regarded as one of the safest ocean beaches on the Surf Coast for swimming.
Although conditions are usually calm, visitors should always swim between the red and yellow flags when patrols are operating, supervise young children around the water and remain aware of changing weather and tidal conditions. Stronger currents can occasionally develop around the rocky headlands, so swimmers should avoid venturing beyond the patrolled area.
