Dance classes at Alanna's Theatre and Dance Studio are of a recreational nature. We pride ourselves on offering top quality dance instruction and education without the stress and pressure of examinations or competitions. Classes are aimed for the beginner student or for those who have dabbled in dance in their younger years and would love to return to the studio in a safe and nurturing environment.

We aim to provide a fun and relaxed atmosphere, nurturing each child's individuality to build their confidence, love and appreciation for dance. We focus on the foundations of dance in a fun and exciting way, encouraging imagination and offering the opportunity for self-expression.

Classes contain an educational element on top of the practical skills taught and students will engage in activities to foster their creative expression, problem solving, risk taking and higher-order thinking skills all while having a great time.

Children's Classes


Preps AcroDance
The preps acro class is a great introduction to acrobatics. Children work on strength, flexibility, coordination, balance and endurance through high energy game based exercises and activities and start to develop key acrobatic skills.

Preps Combo Class
The preps combo class is a great introduction to creative ballet, tap and jazz in the one lesson.

Creative Ballet
Learn the basics of ballet while exploring choreographic elements in a safe, nurturing environment without the hassle and stress of exams and competitions.

Ballet doesn't have to be stressful and focused on gold medals and top exam results. While that is perfect for some, there are others that just want to learn some technical skills, reap the physical benefits and have fun! If you fit into this category, then Creative Ballet is for you!

Students learn basic ballet technique appropriate to their age and development and inspire their creative side by learning how to choreograph their own dances. This gives them ownership over their work and teaches them how to be an effective team member.

Ballet classes are a great way to get fit and are guaranteed to strengthen and condition your body. You will improve your cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, posture, balance and coordination.

Classes consist of cardio vascular warm up, barre and center work, combinations across the floor, stretching and cool down. A routine or phrase will be learnt and performed at the end of the term. While there will be an element of focus on correct technique, this class is about making ballet accessible to everyone, no matter what your skill level.

The goal is to develop dancers who move with expression, grace and feeling.

Alanna is a VIT registered teacher who is experienced in working with children from 18 months up to mature adults and understands that even when it comes to learning dance it is not a one size fits all category. Everyone learns in their own unique way and that should be celebrated and embraced.

Jazz
Jazz Dance classes are great for fitness and loads of fun. Classes begin with a cardio vascular warm up then onto technical aspects such as kicks, turns, jumps, leaps etc. Students will learn combinations and work towards a routine to perform at the end of the term. Lessons always conclude with a cool down.

Fun, energetic and artistic movement performed to popular age appropriate music. Improves coordination, posture, flexibility. The goal is to develop dancers who are engaged, dynamic and passionate.

Tap
Tap classes are so much fun and a great way for developing rhythm, musicality and stamina. Students will learn the fundamentals of tap dance along with terminology as well as rhythms, time steps, patterns, combos and routines! Tap dance classes are great for the developing brain.

Acro
Acro classes are fun and energetic while developing flexibility, strength, control, stamina and focus. Classes are taught by skilled professionals and great care is taken to ensure safety is adhered to at all times. Students will learn cartwheels, handstands, rolls, walkovers etc. The goal is to develop students who are confident in executing basic acrobatic techniques.

Musical Theatre
Musical Theatre classes are a great way to introduce students to the wonderful world of Musical Theatre and build their confidence in the areas of singing, dancing and acting in a safe, inclusive environment. Students partake in a broad range of fun activities to build and extend their skills in acting, dancing, and singing and are taught vocal technique with a touch of theory including stage skills. Classes commence with a vocal and physical warm up and we work on songs, scenes and choreography from an appropriate musical to perform at the end of year concert.

The goal is to develop confident performers who have an understanding and knowledge of the theatre and an appreciation of teamwork.

Hip Hop
Hip Hop classes are such a great way to keep fit and active! This is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing. Classes encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. This high energy class can be taught to anyone with a passion to move, so no dance experience is required.

Lyrical
Lyrical dance combines Ballet, Jazz and contemporary dance techniques. This style teaches younger children how to listen to music and interpret and demonstrate emotion using their face and body.

Classes begin with a ballet inspired warm up and stretch incorporating some jazz movements. Then we progress to some exercises to teach young dancers about weight transfer, turns and jumps.

Speech and Drama
While Alannas Theatre and Dance Studio do not offer dance examinations, we do offer Trinity College examinations in Acting and Speaking.

Adult Classes


Beginner Ballet
Ballet is no longer just for little girls in pink tutus which is fantastic as nothing makes you feel more alive than the beautiful art of ballet. Adult Ballet is an ideal way to get fit because it works every muscle in the body from your fingers and stomach to your bottom and legs as it encompasses a mixture of technique, co-ordination & musicality. It is a fantastic way to get in shape, improve your flexibility, core strength & posture. Class commences with a fun cardiovascular warm up to get the blood pumping, then we progress to technical barre work & strengthening exercises, adage work to improve balance and just a little bit of allegro to get you jumping & working up a sweat. So if you want to have some fun, not take yourself too seriously, get a great workout & feel graceful all at the same time, then beginner adult ballet is for you!

Beginner Tap
Tap is an energetic form of dance that is fun for all ages as it builds aerobic fitness & muscle control. It is characterised by using the sound of your tap shoes hitting the floor as a percussive instrument like drums to create rhythmic patterns and timely beats to the music. Class begins with a warm-up to stretch the muscles of the legs and feet, basic steps both stationary and travelling and short combinations to create different sounds and rhythms.

A key ingredient of tap is balance, so it's great for those looking to improve their posture. It is also a great workout for your mind as it is known to help ward off Alzheimer's & Dementia so why not give it a go! What have you got to lose?

ChiChi Fit
ChiChi FIT is a fun dance fitness experience that fuses the magic of Broadway with cardio and strength training to give you a full-body workout! Featuring hit songs such as "You Can't Stop the Beat" (Hairspray), "Defying Gravity" (Wicked), "Circle of Life" (The Lion King) & Fame, to name a few. Trust us, you haven't lived until you've worked up a sweat to "Greased Lightning" or high-kicked your way, with glittery gold hats, through the finale of A Chorus Line.

ChiChi FIT is our signature programme. It is fun and addictive and where the roots of ChiChi FIT began. You'll learn simple-to-follow routines from a variety of different shows and get taken on an emotive journey through the music and the moves. Dance to beautiful ballads and upbeat showstoppers, It's a very show-biz work-out! With 8 to 12 routines a class, you are guaranteed to work up a sweat as you sparkle. Never danced before? Don't worry! You don't need any previous dance experience to enjoy a ChiChi FIT class. The choreographies are enough to challenge a seasoned dancer but are accessible even to the beginner. No matter what fitness or dance level you're at, ChiChi FIT is safe, fun, and effective!

ChiChi Encore
ChiChi ENCORE is the golden alternative to ChiChi FIT. The biggest difference being that ENCORE has a lower intensity. It's as much fun but not as fast! ENCORE is designed for those, of any age or ability, who want to dance and get fitter but, for whatever reason, need to take things at a slower pace. The easy-to-follow ChiChi choreography focuses on range of motion, balance, coordination and maintaining muscle strength using the well-honed structure of warm-up, cardio, toning and cool down routines. Plus, there's an additional array of fabulous showtunes including a flavour of the golden era of musicals. Routines will have lower impact moves with flexible adaptations to suit your class' specific needs.

babyballet


The babyballet syllabus offers four stages of dance classes that your child can progress through, plus a tap class for the over 3s. Suitable for boys and girls of all abilities, all babyballet classes are non-competitive and taught in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

AcroDance Pre School


This fun acrobatics class focuses on improving co-ordination, gross and fine development skills, social skills, strength and flexibility in a supportive and non-judgemental environment.

AcroDance Pre School by Acrobatic Arts is a progressional system for teaching AcroDance to pre school aged students. Created by industry leader Acrobatic Arts, this program follows the philosophy of safe, effective progressions for achieving the physical and social skills necessary for healthy early childhood development.

Alanna's Theatre and Dance Studio is a certified studio and our staff are highly trained to ensure your little one receives the best and most nurturing start.

School Holiday Programs


Alanna's Theatre and Dance Studio run a Musical Theatre School Holiday program each school holidays. We have previously presented our own adaptations of shows such as Aladdin, The Lion King, Matilda and Willy Wonka Junior!

The program runs Monday to Friday from 9am-12pm with a staged performance with costumes, lighting and sound at 12pm on the final day.

It is a jam packed week full of theatre games, vocal warm-ups, learning choreography, team building activities, rehearsals and making new friends.

It is a condition of registration that the children have to be available for all 5 x days of the program.
