Streatham - Fireworld CFA Museum and Discovery Centre

Fireworld Streatham CFA Museum and Discovery Centre is the educational arm and museum of the Country Fire Authority (CFA).

Fireworld celebrates over 100 years of fire service to the community, from the bucket brigades of the goldfields to the present day service of the volunteers and staff of the C.F.A. Fireworld is sited in a community which was substantially destroyed in a major fire in 1977.

On display are heritage fire trucks, some of which were used during large fires years ago. Visitors will get to learn all about how fire trucks have evolved through the decades. It also features a unique display of how the CFA used radio communication in the past.

Worship of Fire was one of the earliest forms of religion.
  • The use of fire probably developed in four stages leading to the end of the nomadic life-style and the development of communities with permanent homes.
  • Stage one, fire was seen from volcanoes and lightning strikes.
  • Stage two, people acquired fire from natural sources and used it for warmth, light and protection from predators.
  • Stage three, people learned to make fire whenever they chose.
  • Stage four, people learned to control and use fire for smelting metal ore, in pottery and numerous ways to make life easier.
