Southern Area Concert Band

Southern Area Concert Band

The Southern Area Concert Band is one of Victoria's premier community based ensembles. Sponsored by the City of Kingston and based in Moorabbin, the Southern Area Concert Band family has been contributing to Melbourne's rich cultural life by providing award-winning quality music to the public since 1971.

Our membership of over 40 regular members consists of amateur and semi-professional musicians ranging from school students to retirees, and coming from all around Melbourne.

This diverse range of people, ages and backgrounds is cemented together by our love of performing live music both within our local community and around Australia. Our music library consists of a huge variety of styles ranging from classical and movie themes to big band and pop. Of course, no concert band library would be complete without a variety of marches and a selection of music from wind band composers such as Ralph Vaughn Williams, Gustav Holst, Percy Grainger and John Philip Sousa.

Being a community ensemble, the Southern Area Concert Band and the Southern Area Training Band are always seeking new musicians in all areas of the band (woodwind, brass and percussion). If you play an instrument and are interested in joining us, please contact us for information on becoming a member. We always welcome new faces and are always seeking new players for all sections of the bands.
