Sandringham Club Tennis

Sandringham Club Tennis

The Sandringham Club has five synthetic grass courts with competition rated lights. The courts are accessible and available to members from 8.00 am to 10.00pm daily.

Member's partner or children over 18 years may book the courts for use on weekdays, generally in the morning, and in the rear courts up until 4.00 pm. This is by arrangement with the Club Manager with a $10 green fee.

Children of sporting members, 8-18years, may use sporting facilities with their fathers at those times, if not required by Sporting Members. Green fees will not apply.

Coaching
Tennis lessons at the club are available from Tennis Australia accredited coaches. Lessons are private or in groups, small and large. Weekly Cardio tennis is popular.

Casual Tennis
Scheduled casual tennis is Saturday 2.30pm-5.30pm, Thursday 3.00pm-6.00pm and Sunday 9.30am-12.00.

Social doubles on a Saturday afternoon is popular, often with five courts in play. Afterwards, catching up in the bar and on the veranda is club life at its best. For those who can sometimes leave work early, Thursday mid-afternoon on the frontcourts is the place to be. Sunday morning tennis has a loyal following.

With this friendly and slightly competitive activity, new members have an opportunity to gauge their tennis-standard within the group and broaden their friendships.

Competition
Four Sunday Trophy Days - Two daytime doubles events are scheduled in the first quarter and two in the last quarter. They are named after four past members; B.G.Ross, Ted Moran, Norm Brown and Arthur Burton. Players are matched with an effort to give each pair an equal chance to win the cup. The starting time is 9.45am, and then three or four sets are played. The final is held off until after lunch, which is served, in the Centennial Room or in an outdoor setting, around the Houston Pavilion.

Night Teams Championship - Summer: Feb-May, Winter: June-Sept and Spring: Oct-Dec
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 6.45pm -9.15pm (approx) Supper follows.

Each season, entries are called for and from the replies; up to eighteen teams are created. These teams consist of players who are graded 1, 2, 3, or 4 and, usually, have not played together for a while. The published draw shows the nights each team plays. Entries are accepted for the emergency list for those who cannot commit to most of the rounds in the season.

Jack Drinan Trophy (1's & 2's) Bob Scullin Trophy (3's & 4's) - These tournaments are run over four weeks in May-June. Two-man teams, drawn from the 1s & 2s, compete in one and in a similar way the 3's & 4's compete in the other.

Ralph Burt Trophy - The early rounds of the club's singles tournament are played over September-October and the final in December. This match draws a large number of spectators, often including family and friends. This is open entry for all members. At the same time there are tournaments for the 2's,3's & 4's for those who would like test themselves against players of a similar standard.

Mixed Doubles - During the year four mixed doubles events are played on Sunday afternoons. Tennis partners can be arranged for members. Post match refreshments are served in the bar.
