Rubicon - Little River Bridge Rainforest Area

The Little River Bridge Temperate Rainforest Area is one of the district's small secrets. It is one of the closest and best preserved sections of cold temperate rainforest close to Alexandra and Eildon. While there are other areas of temperate rainforest to be found in the Rubicon Ranges, this is well established, has a carpark area, is near a pretty bridge, is located on the banks of a beautiful accessible river and is along a well formed bush road (Blue Range Road). It is accessible from Rubicon (via Blue Range Road) or Taggerty (via Cathedral Lane which intersects with Blue Range Road 4.6 km from the Little River Bridge).

Myrtle Beech trees at the site ensure the area is extremely colourful in the autumn months. In the cooler months the moss, fungi and lichen are abundant and highly photographic.

While camping is not allowed at the site, it is a popular Day Visitor destination for those who know about it.

The Rubicon State Forest is home to a large number of natural and historical wonders.

Some of these areas are small spots where the historical timber mill industry were located, where the Hydro Electric Scheme is currently located or small natural spots of intense beauty.

Amongst these are the magnificent set of historical Trestle Bridges built as a part of the early Hydroelectric scheme which still runs today. All of these bridges are visually stunning.
