Oaklands Pony Club (Oaklands Junction)

Oaklands Pony Club holds monthly rallies and organises a range of equestrian events for its members during the year. Each year the club runs horse trials, a show jumping day and makes the facilities at Oaklands available for Central Zone competitions.

The Club is based at 'Sherwood', the home of Oaklands Hunt Club, in Greenvale - opposite the historic Woodlands Park and only a few minutes drive from Tullamarine Airport. Oaklands is one of the largest pony clubs operating in the Pony Club Association of Victoria's Central Zone.

The Club was founded in 1956 by members of the Oaklands Hunt Club who wanted to encourage their children and those of local landowners to ride. When Melbourne hosted the 1956 Olympic games, the Pentathalon event was held at Oaklands. It was also the home of the Melbourne 3DE from 1957 to its move to Werribee in 1980. Affiliation with the Pony Club Association of Victoria was formalised in 1960.

Oaklands Pony Club has its own Clubhouse at Sherwood. Through its close association with Melbourne Show Jumping Club it has access to first-class show jumping facilities. The Club's recently upgraded cross-country course, which covers beautiful undulating countryside has, in the past, been accredited as a State qualifier by the Pony Club Association of Victoria.

Members of the Pony Club are able to participate in hunts when they have reached a certain level of ability. They are then treated to a Junior Hunt each year with the Oaklands Hunt Club.

Over the years, many strong friendships have been forged at Oaklands Pony Club through the sport of riding. We make people feel welcome and emphasise working together and supporting each other.

Rallies
At Oaklands Pony Club, club rallies are held on the first Sunday of the month, excluding January. Rally activities usually include show jumping, cross-country, dressage and games. The day ends around 3.30pm. There is a one hour break for lunch.

During the year, some rallies follow a slightly different format. In April, we hold an extra rally on Good Friday which usually involves riding out with friends in the historic Woodlands Park, across the road from the Club grounds. In June, the end of the Pony Club Association of Victoria (PCAV) financial year, our riders compete in various events and annual trophies are awarded. In July, new groups are formed by the DC to take account of changes to our membership and the start of the new financial year. The December Rally is a more festive occasion - riders of all ages dress up and have some fun. (And of course Father Christmas visits.) In all, Oaklands PC organises 12 rallies each year.
