Coulson Reserve Dog Off Leash Area (Clifton Hill)

Coulson Reserve Dog Off Leash Area (Clifton Hill)

Coulson Reserve is a small reserve located along the Merri Creek that provides access to the Merri Creek Trail. Facilities include a soccer ground. It is a dog off leash area with the following restrictions:
  • Dogs are allowed off-leash in unfenced sporting grounds only when the grounds are not in use for approved sporting events (including training).
  • Dogs must be kept on-leash within 10 metres of sporting grounds when they are in use for approved sporting events (including training).

A nightmare to get to and definitely not worth the effort. We parked in Creek Parade, crossed Merri Creek via a bridge, headed west towards the orange railway bridge and then took the steps up to Coulson Reserve. The only thing enjoying this place was an ibis which was picking tasty morsels from the grass. The reserve, home of the Clifton Hill Soccer Club, is occupied almost totally by a soccer oval, is noisy from busy Heidelberg Road, is unfenced at the eastern end next to the road and has a pavilion in the south west corner with bins but no water tap.

Due to increased criminal activity these premises are now under 24 hour continuous police patrol - don't blame dog owners for the criminality since they are hardly likely to venture here. There was lots of graffiti on the walls off the pavilion and some of it is quite good.
