A dry, treeless, desolate area at the north west end of Footscray Park without a water tap. That's the bad news over and done with. The good news is that there in a bin in the north east corner of the off leash area and that the area is large. Personally, I would prefer a smaller paradise rather than a larger scene of desolation. Maybe our dog isn't so picky.
Footscray Park is a regional open space with extensive garden beds and other facilities. It provides views to the city skyline, Flemington Racecourse and connections to the Maribyrnong River Trail. Special features - Footscray Park has the most intact Edwardian period public garden in Victoria. The Park was designed by noted architect Rodney Alsop, who won a competition for its design in 1911. These plans were implemented by Superintendent David Mathews, from 1916 to 1964. The park contains a memorial garden for soldiers who served in World War I and World War II as well as a memorial to the poet Henry Lawson. The off-lead area is located on the western side (Victoria University side) of Thomson Water Garden. Dogs must be on-lead within five metres of the trail along the Maribyrnong River.
