The Koonung Creek Linear Park follows the course of the Koonung Creek (and the Eastern Freeway) which forms the boundary of Manningham, Whitehorse and some of Boroondara.

The Linear Park contains the Koonung Trail, a shared path for cyclists and pedestrians which has good connections to on-road paths, and links directly to the Main Yarra Trail and the EastLink Trail.

The Koonung Creek Linear Park is approximately 10 kilometres in length in total from Thompsons Road, Bulleen to Springvale Road, Donvale.

The Donvale section of the Koonung Creek Linear Park runs from Tunstall Road to Springvale Road. This is a distance of 0.8 km. This section of the Koonung Trail is on the north side of the Eastern Freeway.

Dogs can be off-leash except they must be on-lead on the main trail path and within 5 metres of the path.

Review:

We walked in a westward direction from Springvale Road. After parking the car at the eastern end of Darvall Street, we took the footpath beside Springvale Road down to the trail.

Trees line the shaded path initially and the path runs next to the wall of the freeway. The trail is shared with frequent cyclists.

After 300m a path leads from Darvall Street to connect to the trail. Near this point is a bridge over the freeway to Blackburn North. Soon after the grassy area widens and the path splits into multiple dirt paths. We took the most northerly path which is decent off-leash area.

Two paths then join together and there is a grassy hill. This is Tunstall Road where the Donvale section of the Koonung Creek Linear Park ends.

There is no water tap or bin in this section.
