Koonung Creek Linear Park Dog Off Leash Area (Doncaster)

Koonung Creek Linear Park Dog Off Leash Area (Doncaster)

The Koonung Creek Linear Park follows the course of the Koonung Creek (and the Eastern Freeway) which forms the boundary of Manningham, Whitehorse and some of Boroondara.

The Linear Park contains the Koonung Trail, a shared path for cyclists and pedestrians which has good connections to on-road paths, and links directly to the Main Yarra Trail and the EastLink Trail.

The Koonung Creek Linear Park is approximately 10 kilometres in length in total from Thompsons Road, Bulleen to Springvale Road, Donvale.

The Doncaster section of the Koonung Creek Linear Park runs near where Park Avenue is next to the Linear Park and continues to Wetherby Road past Park Reserve, Doncaster Road, Elgar Road and Tram Road. This is a distance of 4.2 km. This section of the Koonung Trail is on the north side of the Eastern Freeway.

Dogs can be off-leash except they must be on-lead on the main trail path and within 5 metres of the path.

Review:

We went to the section of the Koonung Creek Linear Park north of the Koonung Creek between Tram Road and where the pedestrian bridge crosses the Eastern Freeway. There is a gravel path running beside the creek with grass areas beside the creek. When you reach Windella Quadrant, there is a playground, unshaded table and water tap where someone has placed a bowl. In this area there are houses on the northern side but they are not too obtrusive. Generally the creek is not too accessible but there are sections where dogs can easily reach the creek and have a drink. There is even a fun rock crossing of the creek.
