Newport Lakes Park Dog Off Leash Area (Newport)

Newport Lakes Park Dog Off Leash Area (Newport)

The Newport Lakes park has three zones. More than half of the park, on the eastern side, is a sanctuary for water birds and wildlife and is fenced off with a few gates for access. Dogs are prohibited from this area.

The dog off leash zone is in the north west and west part of the park. This area has a huge grassy section dotted with trees, little hillocks to explore and clumps of bushes. There are generally plenty of dogs here to interact with.

To the south of this area is an arboretum (a collection of exotic plant species) with a lovely array of interesting trees interspersed with grassy sections. This is a really interesting area to wander through and the most interesting trees are labelled. Look out for the Bunya Bunya Pine (but don't touch since it is very spiky) and the Queensland Bottle Tree.

The third zone is the grassy strip in the south which has the Graham Street playground and Paveys Picnic area and is an on leash area. The Paveys picnic area has two huge shelters with tables, water tap without a bowl, BBQs, bins and toilets. This is also near the main Mason Street entrance. Gates open at 8am and close at 7pm (9pm during daylight savings) although it is always open for pedestrians.
