Princes Park Dog Off Leash Area (Carlton North)

Princes Park Dog Off Leash Area (Carlton North)

There are two dog off leash areas within Princes Park. One is at the extreme south end around Crawford oval and the other is in the northern part along part of Bowen Crescent (south of the Princes Park Bowling Club). There is ticketed parking from 7:30am to 6:30pm Monday to Friday along Princes Park Drive and Bowen Crescent.

Crawford Oval is a large grassy area without fences with some trees around the perimeter. The busy roads are not fenced off. The off leash area is south of the path which runs from Royal Parade to Princes Park Drive.

The northern off leash area is better than the southern area and is a big grassy area dotted with trees with a number of shaded and unshaded seats. There is a path which designates the off leash demarcation line and at the end of the path are bins plus a water tap with bowl at the eastern end. The off leash area is not fenced from busy Royal Parade.

At the most northern part there is a pond with fountain which is a lovely spot to rest. Keep an eye out for a lovely bronze sculpture in memory of Angela Jane Esdaile who was 24 years old when she died of acute asthma. It commemorates the contribution to the community of childcare workers like Angela. There are public toilets located west of the pond.

Nearby is the Princes Park Carlton Bowls Club which offers barefoot bowling.
