Werribee South Beach

Werribee South Beach

Beach Road runs on the low bluffs behind the beach, and the beach curves around into the river mouth, where there is a park, picnic area, boat ramp and jetties.

The 1.2 km long beach is narrow and fronted by 200 to 300 m wide sand flats on the open, east facing coast, with a deep tidal channel along the south facing river mouth section.

Swimming is safest on the open beach at mid to high tide. Be careful in the river mouth because of the deep water, strong tidal currents and boat traffic.

The small settlement of Werribee South which lies on the northern banks of the Werribee River marks the last public access to the coast, until Beacon Point boat ramp 11 km to the south-west.

Review:

Where Duncans Road meets Beach Road to the west of Werribee South there is a long fairly wide beach backed by a strip of bushes and a grassy strip. At the west end a drain enters the water and the beach becomes coarser. There is a sign to beware of snakes in this area.

Eventually the beach continues to the playground where there is a shared use path and some unshaded tables. There are power boats in this area and you should avoid swimming at this western end. Swimming is better at the east end.

At the Werribee South Jetty and boat ramp there is a toilet, unshaded tables, BBQ and toilets.
