Aranga Reserve Fenced Dog Park (Donvale)

Aranga Reserve Fenced Dog Park (Donvale)

A large main fenced area which is about 200m x 100m in size which has two entrance gates, one on Eastway Avenue and another on Aranga Crescent.

At the western side is a doggy obstacle course with an elevated platform, ramps leading to a level platform, triangle ramp, tunnel, circular disk sitting on top of a tyre, metal ring to jump through, two metal hoops to walk through, another disk sitting on two tyres and another elevated platform before the finish line. If this seems difficult to visualise have a look at the photos.

On the north side is a another simpler obstacle course with ten wooden poles to weave through, a wooden double hurdle and three single hurdles. There is a seat with possible shade next to these obstacles.

The central area is generally grassy but the grass has been worn down to dirt in some sections.

There is a separate fenced training area which is about 50m x 50m with one unshaded seat. There are rules which apply to this area which are:
  • A maximum time of 10 minutes if someone is waiting
  • Used for dogs who prefer their own company
  • If is use, please ask before you enter
  • The area cannot be booked or reserved

On the side of the building in the western corner are some interesting information displays on topics such as "Space Etiquette for Dogs", "Guidelines about Enjoying the Dog Activity Centre", "Friends of Manningham Dogs and Cats" and "How to Greet a Dog"

Top tips from the poster on "How to Greet a Dog" is:
  • DON'T lean over the dog and stick your hand in his face
  • DON'T lean over the dog and stick your hand on top of his head
  • DON'T grab or hug him
  • DON'T stare him in the eye (this is an adversarial gesture)
  • DON'T squeal or shout in his face
  • DON'T grab his head and kiss it (this is an invasion of space)
  • DO use the following approach: no eye contact, let the dog approach you in his own time, keep either your SIDE or BACK towards the dog (non-threatening posture), pet or stroke him on the SIDE of his face or body or on his back

There is a water tap for people which includes a bowl for dogs and bins are provided near each gate for disposal of doggy bags.

There is limited parking on on Eastway Avenue and you may need to continue on and park in Darvall Street.

There is a playground outside the fenced area on Eastway Avenue.
