Middle Brighton Baths (Brighton)

Middle Brighton Baths (Brighton)

The Middle Brighton Baths are probably the safest place to bathe in Port Phillip.

The Brighton Baths are open to members and casual visitors alike. The Baths are the perfect venue for swimming laps, a recovery session, or simply a relaxing dip with friends and family. Boasting a large enclosed area for open water swimming, the Baths' Olympic size is ideal for timing laps, or completing 300 metre circuits.

There are junior swim clinics for children 7 years and older which instil open water confidence, teach water safety, and empower your children in the water.

If relaxation is what you're seeking, take time out to recharge your batteries on our private boardwalk. Providing shelter from the wind and privacy from the crowds, our boardwalk creates the perfect environment for rejuvenation. Bring a book, take a stroll, enjoy the shade under our umbrellas, or soak up the sunshine.

Middle Brighton Baths have a General Beach Hazard Rating of 1/10 (Least hazardous).

Review:

Next to the Baths is Middle Brighton Pier which is a very long pier beside a water tap, toilet, ticketed car park, The Baths kiosk and Coastal Trail information boards.

Parking in the area is ticketed 7 days a week including public holidays from 8am to 8pm. The cost is $5.30 per hour and $12.60 for 4 hours (maximum stay).

The Baths which are surrounded by a metal cage has a 40m wide strip of beach which had a fair amount of sea-weed on the sand. There is a wooden pier around three sides with some steps leading down into the water at some points. Three are a few umbrellas for shade.

The building at The Baths was built in 1881 as the changing rooms for the adjoining "sea baths". Ladies and gentleman at that time were required by law to swim at separate, designated times. A different coloured flag indicated whether it was time for men or women to enjoy the facilities.

The Baths were reconstructed and reopened in 1936 after a devastating storm in 1934. Middle Brighton Baths are the only remaining caged open water sea baths in Australia!

Beside the Baths to the east is a tiny triangle of sand with a drain running through it.
