Holloway Beach (Brighton)

Holloway Beach (Brighton)

Holloway Beach is a smallish beach between Green Point to the south and the popular Dendy Street beach with its boat sheds to the north.

At Green Point, the low rocks and reefs have been encased in a 300 m long seawall, which is backed by Brighton Beach Gardens. On the north side of the wall is Holloway Beach. Holloway Beach curves around for just 200 m and is backed by a reserve and scout hall. Pulses of sand move along Green Point and onto Holloway, often forming a small lagoon between the sand pulse and the beach.

The Esplanade parallels the beach and there is a large car park in the Brighton Gardens.

The beach faces due west and is exposed to strong westerly winds and waves.

Swimming - The beach is relatively safe under the usual low waves, with the inner section of Holloway beach offering a sandy bar, while rocks and reefs occur off the remainder of the beach.

Holloway Beach beach has a General Beach Hazard Rating of 2/10 (Least hazardous).

Review:

At the top of a grassy park, Green Point, you look down towards the north over Holloway Beach. It's not the most attractive beach and there was quite a lot of sea-weed in the water and on the foreshore.

A path at the north end of the beach leads to Dendy Street Beach with its colourful beach huts. This north end is rocky.

Some unshaded tables and seats overlook the beach with nice views with the city skyline in the background. The park has a cannon, War Memorial and big shelter with seats. There is a big car park with ticketed parking ($5.30 per hour and $16.80 for all day).

Access for Dogs:

Dogs are prohibited on sand and foreshore area during the period 1st November to 31st March from 10:00 am to 7:30pm.
Dogs permitted off leash at all other times.
