Dendy Street Beach (Brighton)

Dendy Street Beach (Brighton)

Dendy Street, with its boat sheds, is one of Melbourne's most photographed beaches. It is also very popular, with good parking and access.

Dendy Street Beach is 500 m long and tied to two reefs, with the famous series of colourful boat sheds lining most of the beach. The Esplanade parallels the beach and there is a large car park at the northern end of Dendy Street.

The beach faces due west and is exposed to strong westerly winds and waves. There is a bar along the northern section of the beach.

Swimming - The beach is relatively safe under the usual low waves, with the northern section of Dendy beach offering a sandy bar, while rocks and reefs occur off the remainder of the beach.

Dendy Street beach has a General Beach Hazard Rating of 3/10 (Least hazardous).

Review:

To the south of the Brighton Life Saving Club the beach curves around in an arc and is dotted with colourful beach huts. The beach is reasonably wide and sandy but you do risk getting sand kicked in your face by hordes of tourists. The beach stretches for a long distance all the way to a point where there is no longer a beach.
