Middle Brighton Beach

Middle Brighton beach is a very accessible patrolled beach right next to the main road, with a promenade running the length of the beach. Best bathing is toward the centre, away from the rocks and reefs at each end.

Middle Brighton Beach is the home of the Brighton Life Saving Club. Unlike its boat shed lined neighbour (Dendy Street), Middle Brighton has a seawall and promenade running the length of the 500 m long beach. The beach is backed by The Esplanade, with a large car park next to the lifesaving club at the southern end of the beach.

The beach is bordered by rock flats and reefs at each end. In addition, a groyne has been built across the northern end, while the seawall and low grassy bluffs back the beach. The beach tends to widen to the north, while the surf zone alternates between the reefs and an irregular, shallow, usually attached bar.

Swimming - It's best to go a little north of the club house, away from the reefs. However, stay in the patrolled area.

Middle Brighton beach has a General Beach Hazard Rating of 3/10 (Least hazardous)

Review:

The northern end of the beach is bordered by a rock wall sticking out into the water with a lot of rocks along the shore and in the water plus a thin strip of sand. There is also a drain near here near a rocky point (opposite Park Street). Avoid this area to the north of here.

To the south is huge wide sandy expanse. There is a walking track beside the beach. The wide beach stretches all the way to the Brighton Life Saving Club. The northern part of this area is an official kite boarding zone and could be unsafe for swimmers. To the south of the Life Saving Club there is no boating or kite boarding allowed.

At the Life Saving Club there is ticketed parking from 8am to 8pm which is $5.30 per hour and $12.60 for all day. There is a water tap, beach showers and toilets. There is also a drain in front of the Life Saving Club which is something to avoid. To the south of the Life Saving Club are the famous colourful beach huts at Dendy Beach.

Access for Dogs:

Dogs are prohibited on sand and foreshore area during the period 1st November to 31st March from 10:00 am to 7:30pm.
Dogs permitted off leash at all other times.
