Beaumaris Yacht Club Beach

Beaumaris Yacht Club beach is a relatively natural, narrow beach with a strip of sand and an increasingly rock and reef dominated surf.

North of Ricketts Point, the coast trends north-west for 2 km to Quiet Corner. It is dominated by 10 to 20 m high, vegetated bluffs, fronted by extensive rocks and reefs.

Beaumaris Yacht Club Beach is 700 m long, with sand, then increasing reef, to the north between the bluffs and rocks.

Beach Road runs along the top of the bluffs and parallels the beach, however vehicle access is restricted to the yacht club, where there is a large car park and picnic area. Elsewhere, parking is on Beach Road.

The beach faces south-west, exposing it to periodic strong, south-west winds and waves. The waves break heavily over the reefs and there is insufficient sand to build a generally attached bar, with rip channels running along the reefs.

Swimming - Best at high tide when the rocks and reefs are covered. Dangerous when there are wind waves, owing to the dominance of reefs and rip currents.

Beaumaris Yacht Club Beach has a General Beach Hazard Rating of 4/10 (Moderately hazardous)

Review:

There is no parking available on Beach Road but ticketed parking is available near the Beaumaris Yacht Club. 60m east of Haydens Road there is a shared access path which goes down to the beach.

There is a fairly narrow, sandy beach in front of the Yacht Club. At the south end there are a lot of rocks in the water and at the north end there are also rocks in the water and the beach becomes backed by cliffs. 70m south of the Yacht Club a big concrete drain pipe discharges into the water.

Overall, this is a beach more suited to dogs than people and maybe you should leave it to the Yacht Club and the dogs.

Access for Dogs:

Dogs are permitted off leash at all times on the sand and rock foreshore area between the southern end of the Beaumaris Yacht Club and McGregor Avenue.
