Bonbeach Beach

Bonbeach Beach

Bonbeach beach is most suited to locals and train travellers, as parking is very limited.

Bonbeach beach forms the southern end of the 7.7 km long beach that includes Bonbeach, Chelsea, Edithvale and Aspendale Beaches. Bonbeach is 1.5 km long, beginning at the northern Patterson River entrance wall and merging with adjoining Chelsea Beach to the north.

The beach is located near the Bonbeach train station. Bonbeach has a lifesaving club, however access to the club is down a narrow street and parking is very limited.

The beach faces west-south-west and is exposed to the full force of westerly winds and waves, which interact with the fine sand to build a beach fronted by three bars extending 200 m bayward. Near the river mouth, strong tidal currents can be encountered.

Swimming - Safest in front of the Life Saving Club on the shallow sections of the inner bar. Stay well clear of the river mouth which has deep water, currents and power boats. Watch children as deeper rip holes and troughs lie adjacent to the inner bar.

Bonbeach beach has a General Beach Hazard Rating of 3/10 (Least hazardous).

Review:

The beach has very limited parking near the beach long Lord Weaver Grove but there is a ticketed car park at the end of Williams Grove. It is ticketed parking 7 days a week including public holidays. The minimum fee is $3.40, hourly rate is $3.40 and all day parking is $12.30. Residents of the City of Kingston can park for free if they display their Kingston Council Parking Permit which is available to all Kingston Council residents. There is also some limited free parking on Nepean Highway. Parking in the side streets has 2 hour parking.

The beach is only a short distance from the Bonbeach railway station.

Near the end of Harding Avenue, close to the car park in Williams Grove, there are toilets and a beach shower.

South of the car park and toilets is the Bonbeach Life Saving Club which has a water tap.

There is a nice wide, sandy beach with small shells in the sand in sections. The beach stretches to the south to the Patterson River and to the north as far as the eye can see. To the north of the Life Saving Club are six colourful beach huts.
