Hawker Beach (Mount Martha)

Hawker Beach (Mount Martha)

Hawker beach, which is 600 m long, is one of three narrow beaches north of Balcombe Creek in Mount Martha which is backed by boat sheds and bluffs.

The Esplanade parallels the shore on top of the bluffs. To reach Hawker beach requires a walk up the beach or a steep climb down the 20 m high bluffs. There are numerous boat sheds lining the rear of the beach. At Hawker Beach, a seawall fronts the boat sheds to protect them from erosion that has narrowed the beach, as far as the seawall in some places.

Swimming - A moderately safe beach when waves are low, however, still watch the variable water depth off the beach owing to the bars, channels and rip holes. Use care if there are any waves breaking, as the rips will be flowing.

Hawker Beach has a General Beach Hazard Rating of 3/10 (Least hazardous). The beach is unpatrolled.

Review:

A fire access track leads from opposite #546 Esplanade down to the beach. The beach is a dog leash free area. A long seawall ends at the northern end of the beach and the southern end has rocks stretching out into the sea.

The beach is littered with rocks and boulders with very small sandy areas. There are also a few dilapidated street huts.

Access for Dogs:

Leash free all year round.
