Craigie Beach (Mount Martha)

Craigie Beach is a 120m long isolated pocket beach with a bluff behind the beach.

The Esplanade parallels the shore on top of the bluffs. To reach Craigie Beaches requires a walk up the beach or a steep climb down the 20 m high bluffs.

Swimming - A moderately safe beach when waves are low, however, still watch the variable water depth off the beach owing to the bars, channels and rip holes. Use care if there are any waves breaking, as the rips will be flowing.

Craigie Beach has a General Beach Hazard Rating of 3/10 (Least hazardous). The beach is unpatrolled.

Review:

Craigie beach is accessed by a long path with stair sections starting from the path which runs along the top of the cliff close to Clarkes Avenue.

A long sea-wall extends along the beach and at the northern end there is a little wooden jetty with steps which leads down to the start of the sea-wall which has rocks in front. There is a narrow sandy strip in front of the wall. However, when we visited the wall was being pounded by waves and there was no sign of any sand.

There is a track running along the top of the sea-wall with hard packed sand, a few beach boxes and a gap in the wall with a busted up concrete ramp leading into the water.

200m to the south of where the track joins the beach there is an off-leash area at Hawker beach.

Overall, not a very attractive beach destination for families.
