Scarsdale - Rainbow Bird Trail

Walk, cycle or ride your horse on the 35 kilometre trail between Scarsdale and Dereel and experience amazing orchids, birds and native mammals, amidst some of Victoria's most interesting rural and goldfields history.

The trail passes through:

Scarsdale Community Park - The start of the trail. Facilities include toilets, BBQ, picnic facilities and car parking area.

Nimmons Bridge - One of the largest timber trestle bridges in Victoria, reflective of a bygone era in railway transport.

Golden Lake Mining Reserve - Large mullock heaps left over from former deep lead mining activity. Now private property.

Historic Jubilee Mine Site - One of the deepest of the district reef mines (over 2000 feet). It produced over 135,000 ounces of gold until its closure in 1913.

Jubilee Dam - The major water storage facility for the Jubilee Mine and now an attractive picnic site.

Moonlight Reservoir - Constructed as the major water supply for the former township of Moonlight. It is now a bushland reserve.

Old Berringa School - Constructed in 1902, with early enrolments of over 200. It closed in 1954 and is now a community hall.

Berringa Reservoir - It was the major water supply for the former township of
Berringa. It is now a bird sanctuary and picnic ground.

Berringa Recreation Reserve - Five acres gazetted in 1902 as a cricket reserve. It now has toilets, BBQ, sheltered picnic facilities and oval.

Avenue of Honour - Two rows of snow gums, a cairn to commemorate the town of Berringa and a small parking area.

Mine Managers House - The former home of the mine manager for the Williams Fancy Mines. Now privately owned.

Berringa Church - Formerly St. Aidanís Church of England. It opened in 1906 and is now privately owned and operated as an Ecumenical Church.

Berringa Historical Precinct - Contains features of an archaeological importance, including circular in-ground tanks.

Birthday Mines - Extensive mining remains from the Birthday group of mines.

Misery Creek Bridge - Opened with great celebration in 1906. The 70ft long bridge was once the main crossing of Mount Misery Creek.
