Hamilton - Apex Park Steam Locomotive and Grange Burn

Hamilton - Apex Park Steam Locomotive and Grange Burn

A full size K-class locomotive is on display with ramp access to the drivers compartment which you can enter. Before we visited someone had painted a happy face on the front of the engine which gives it a lot of personality - just like Thomas the Tank Engine.

There is also a shelter with table and BBQ plus toilets.

Next to the locomotive are River Red Gums which were planted as an "Anzac Avenue".

The nearby waterway (Grange Burn) is platypus habitat. There is an information board about the platypus and various walks ranging from 0.7km to 5.2km which pass by places where numerous platypus sightings have been recorded at dusk and dawn.

The Braeside Weir on Grange Burn used to be the Hamilton swimming pool up to 1955 and remains of the pool are easily found.
