Scarsdale - Historic Jubilee Mine Site

Relics of Smythesdale's gold-mining history can be found at this well preserved gold mining site at Jubilee Historic Mine Reserve at Italian Gully. Between 1887 and 1913, the mine employed around 300 men and produced, in today's terms, around A$80 million worth of gold. The relics include old cyanide vats, mullock heaps, brick walls, and water races which are now rusting away in the bush.

Directions - Turn southeast off the Glenelg Highway at Scarsdale onto Pitfield Road. Travel 3.5 kilometres then turn left onto the Newtown-Berringa Road (bitumen). Travel 2.5 kilometres then turn right onto Jubilee Road (unsealed). The site is another 3 kilometres.
