Mount Arapiles-Tooan State Park

Mount Arapiles is a spectacular feature, rising sharply from the Wimmera plains to form part of the Mount Arapiles-Tooan State Park. It is one of Australia's best rock climbing areas. Created in 1987, the 7475 hectare park is valuable for nature conservation, with 14% of the State's flora species represented in the Mount Arapiles section alone.

Rock climbing


Mt Arapiles is widely regarded as the top rock climbing area in Australia and is world renowned. More than 2000 routes have been developed on the many cliffs, crags and pinnacles, presenting variety and challenge to climbers of all levels of experience. The climbs are featured in a variety of commercially available climbing guides. There are a variety of walking tracks in the area, catering for all fitness levels.

Note: Rock climbing can be a hazardous sport and should only be undertaken by climbers with experience and training, or under the guidance of skilled and qualified instructors.

Facilities and Accommodation


Centenary Park is a great spot to enjoy a picnic. Centenary campground is the only place to camp in the park. There are three camping areas within the campground. There are limited fireplaces, picnic tables, water and toilets, but no showers. Camping fees apply.

Bluff Picnic Area - Enjoy the spectacular views from this picnic area. Basic facilities are provided - fireplaces and picnic tables. There are no toilets.

Hotel accommodation is available in Natimuk, and there is a caravan park at Natimuk Lake 4km north of the township.

Walking


Walking is a great way to discover the park. Marked walking tracks feature some spectacular views, catering for a range of fitness levels and time constraints.

Cycling and driving


The vehicle track circling the Mount is suitable for cycling and driving, and is a good spring wildflower walk. In winter only the eastern end of the track is opened to vehicles.

Access for Dogs:


Dogs are permitted on Summit Road only.

Review:


Take the turnoff to Centenary Park to get to an area where there is parking and camping facilities. It could be a long walk on stony paths to see climbers. The area known as "The Pines" is the traditional camping area which has wood fires, toilets and camping fees.
