The Werribee District Historical Society was formed in 1970 for the purposes of preserving, archiving and researching historical material, maps, artefacts, clothing and buildings of the Wyndham Shire.

The museum, which is based in the former Shire Hall, houses an extensive collection consisting of photographs, maps, and museum artefacts.

Review:

The museum is basically one room with a little side room which has displays about the history of dairying in the Werribee area. One wall of the main room has a display titled "Wyndham General Store" which shows what products would be sold in former times. In the middle is an audio visual display with photos being rotated. There are some nice models including a model of the Werribee Uniting Church and Werribee Mechanics Institute.

If you come with some young kids, here's a chance to see some items which they probably have never been exposed to such as a bed pan, typewriter, gramophone player or rotary phone.
