Wannon - Wannon Falls

Wannon - Wannon Falls

The Wannon and Nigretta waterfalls are located about 19 km west of Hamilton. The turn-off for Wannon Falls is on the Glenelg Highway near the township of Wannon.

The Falls are fed by the Wannon River that has its head waters in the Grampians mountains. The Wannon Falls has a 30 metre single plunge into a deep pool below. There is a viewing platform at the Wannon Falls which offers spectacular views.

The amount of water varies with the time of year. The best time to view the falls is between June and October.

At Wannon Falls there is a koala reserve, a sports area and picnic-barbecue area. Kangaroos abound and both swimming and fishing can be enjoyed. Several viewing platforms have been carved out of the cliff face.

Review:

The Wannon Falls are easily accessible and are located only about 200m along Camerons Road from the Glenelg Highway (near Wannon). There is a rotunda with information boards, observation deck for the falls, toilets, walking track and picnic areas. There is a shelter with table and BBQ plus unshaded tables.

When we visited in January there was no water flowing over the falls except for a tiny trickle. If water was flowing it would be an impressive sight with a big overhanging drop into a pool below.
