Noojee - Loch Valley Tramway Walk

The 5 km return walk follows the course of one of the historic timber tramlines in Noojee through rainforest, ferns and mountain ash trees.

Features include a suspension bridge over the Latrobe River near the parking area, seating along the way, interpretive signage and picnic tables at the end of the walk on the Loch River.

The majority of the track is flat and can be enjoyed by all levels of fitness. Cycling and horse riding are not permitted on the track.

Review:

The walk starts at the DSE which is only about 100m along McCarthy Spur Road from turn-off from Loch Valley Road. At the start point there is a suspension bridge over the Latrobe River, information boards and some unshaded tables beside the river. There is some old historical equipment and located at the start of the walk. There are some information boards describing how timber was brought out of the area on the tramway.

The trail goes through tree ferns which often form a canopy over the trail. The track surface is dirt scattered with little flat rocks and a lot of tree litter. There are a couple of information boards along the track but they are in poor condition. At the half way point you can see more open areas on the opposite side of the Loch River. At the end of the trail beside the river are two unshaded picnic tables and an unshaded seat in a partial clearing.

The trail took us about 40 minutes one way with two kids (aged 8 and 9).

A great walk up along the river, it would be fantastic if it was continued all the way up to the Poplars campground but I'm sure as soon as that was done it would be overrun by trailbikes. There's not much left of the interpretive signs, they've rusted away or been covered in lichen.
