Bairnsdale - Mount Taylor Mountain Bike Park

Situated on the Bullumwaal Road is the Mount Taylor Trail Bike Visitor Area. Located 15 km north of Bairnsdale, at the foot of Mount Taylor, the visitor area serves as an excellent launching place for your ride within the local State Forest.

There are three style of mountain bike tracks within the State forest, a downhill track, all mountain track and a cross country track.

The trails are:
  • Flow Trail 2.88km DH AM. (Black difficult level)
  • Milky Way Track 1.04km AM XC. (Blue intermediate level)
  • Cross Country circuit 5km return. This track starts at the Bullumwaal Road end of the picnic area and heads south up a short steep climb to a rocky knoll. The track decends onto a fast flowing single track across two gullies and weaves up single track to cross Lookout Road meeting up with the lower section of the DH track. Keeping to the "B" line it offers a fast banked corner single track route back to the start. This trail might be decommissioned now (Blue intermediate level)
  • Southern Cross 8.3km AM, XC.(Blue intermediate level)
  • The Big Emu 4.89km. AM, XC. This hand-built trail climbs nearly 300 vertical meters through picturesque eucalypt forest to ultimately arrive at the upper trailhead. Tight switchbacks, technical sections and an average grade of 6% make this a demanding yet rewarding climb (Blue intermediate level)
  • Mt Taylor Downhill 2.3km One-way. Due to it's fast paced and technical nature this double black diamond trail starts below the communications tower off Tower Road and winds it's way down the mountain with fast corners, big jumps and loose rocks. The trail has 300m of vertical descent (Double black extreme level)
  • Tip Run 0.90km DH, AM, XC. A fast and flowy trail with lots of small jumps and features for more experienced riders (Blue intermediate level)
  • Mount Taylor All Mountain Track 3.95km One-way. This free flowing trail starts 50m north along from the start of the downhill track and has dozens of jumps, dips and bermed corners. It drops quickly down through tall open eucalyptus forest and scrubby granite boulder terrain. The track offers easy but technical features with loads of trail features along the way, meeting up with the lower section of the DH track. Keeping to the "B" line it offers a fast banked corner single track route to the picnic area at the end (Blue intermediate level)
Picnic facilities are available at Mount Taylor Picnic Area, including tables, bench seats, barbeques, a fire pit and a toilet.

Update from DELWP on 25/1/2019 - Rise to the uphill challenge, go with the flow downhill and test out other awesome tracks and obstacles at the Mt Taylor Mountain Bike Park, north of Bairnsdale in Gippsland.
Exciting additions and upgrades mean there are now 30 km of bicycle tracks to tackle thanks to 2018 State Government funding.
Local Forest Fire Management Victoria staff have built a five-kilometre-long 'ascending' track which provides a challenging ride from the bottom to the top.
Specialist contractors, Dirt Art, have sculpted a new three and a half kilometre 'Flow Track' from the top to bottom and extended the Southern Cross cross-country track by five kilometres.
Built to make it fun and challenging with lots of jumps, gaps and bermed corners, this work will keep the tracks more sustainable and provide variety and options for riders.
The new tracks have been praised as great to ride and 'an awesome facility for the wider cycling community. The Mt Taylor MTB park now has something for all mountain bikers, from less experienced, to experts looking for a challenge.'
