Tyers - Tyers Regional Park

Set in the foothills to the north of the Latrobe Valley, Tyers Park encompasses the fine scenery of the Tyers Gorge where the Tyers River winds between steep forested slopes. The park has an abundance of diverse wildflowers and the birdlife, making it a favourite destination for naturalists. Outcrops of limestone and conglomerate are of geological interest. The limestone contains both plant and animal fossils.

Popular activities at Tyers Park include scenic drives, bushwalks, picnicking, swimming, fishing and nature study.

Spring is the main wildflower season and a good time to visit, although the park has plenty to offer throughout the year.

Location - Tyers Park is situated approximately 180 kilometres east of Melbourne. The park is reached from the Princes Highway at Moe by following Glengarry Road to Yallourn North and then Quarry Road. Alternatively the park can be reached from Traralgon via the Tyers-Walhalla Road.

Walking
1. Petersons Lookout 400 metres, 10 minutes one way
Petersons Lookout is a crag of conglomerate which overlooks the Tyers River Gorge and
provides fine views to the Latrobe Valley. The lookout is situated at the end of W2 Track. This
area is subject to a seasonal closure for fauna protection between 1st July to 15th December

2. Wirilda Walking Track 18 kilometres, 5 to 7 hours one way
Starting at the end of the Moondarra Reservoir this track winds through open forests and along the course of the meandering Tyers River. Roads through the park provide access to the track allowing it to be completed in shorter sections. This track contains some steeper sections, is unsurfaced and is recommended for the more serious walker.
