We have created a document in PDF format which has a summary of the best playgrounds in the North East of Melbourne. It includes 26 playgrounds in Balwyn, Balwyn North, Bayswater, Box Hill, Camberwell, Clifton Hill, Doncaster, Doncaster East, Eltham, Eltham North, Ferntree Gully, Hawthorn, Hawthorn East, Hurstbridge, Kew East, Kinglake, Lilydale, Lower Templestowe, Mitcham, Montrose, Mooroolbark, Ringwood, The Basin and Yarra Glen.

UPDATE: Since we published this list, some other great playgrounds have been created or upgraded and should be added to the list. These are:

Blackburn Lake Sanctuary Playspace, Central Road, Blackburn is centred around a huge turtle with a wooden play structure.

Kooyong Park, Glenferrie Road, Kooyong has a baseball theme with admission gate, scoreboard, mini-grandstand, commentary box and baseball diamond. Go Yankees!

Sir William Angliss Reserve, Rathmines Road, Hawthorn East is a sleek futuristic type playground with dashes of shiny metal and bright colourful play equipment.

Wattle Park, Riversdale Road, Surrey Hills has two trams for kids to explore as well as a playground play structure.

Boroondara Park, Canterbury Road, Canterbury has equipment with a theme based around modes of transport.

Mount Dandenong Tourist Road, Tremont has a nice wooden play structure and is close to 1000 steps if you want some extra exercise.

Elizabeth Bridge Reserve, Durham Road, Kilsyth has a well equipped playground including a structure with two double-sided climbing walls.

Morrison Reserve, Mikado Rd, Mount Evelyn is a playground with the theme "Morrison's Cattle Yard" which is complete with real windmill, cattleman's hut, full size red tractor pulling a wagon with seats and wooden sculptures of a cattleman's dog and calf.

Petrie Park, Mountain View Road, Montmorency is a fun and bright playground. The highlight for most kids will be the train and carriage which is packed with interesting elements.

Eltham Lower Park Playspace, Main Road, Eltham is a lovely play space for younger kids located next to the Diamond Valley Miniature Railway.
