Echuca Historical Society Museum

Echuca Historical Society is located in the 'National Trust' building of the 'Old Echuca Police Station and Cell complex' and has been in operation since 1960, collecting and preserving the history of the town and area.

It is a local history museum, with a strong focus on recording the early settlement along the Murray River, and has an extensive collection of photos and archives including the Riverine Herald since 1864 and Council Rate Books since 1863 on microfilm which can be called upon when required.

You will see:
  • Photographs of early river crossings, paddlesteamers, early transport including teamsters, railway etc. and early settlers in the area
  • Information and photos of floods and other interesting events.
  • Documents relating to early land sales, river boats, hotels and people.
  • Collection of c1900 wedding costumes.
  • Our outdoor area has stationary engines, horse drawn transport and equipment and other items relating to forestry, farming and life on the land.
  • Many other items of interest for young and old....remember when grandma used this item.
