Swan Hill - River Walk

Located at the junction of the Murray with the Marraboor or Little Murray River, the town was a major port 100 years ago. This trail along the riverbank near the town centre is alive with fascinating reminders and relics of those days. Highlights include the Customs House, Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery, P.S. Gem (currently under restoration) and the impressive Lift Bridge, designed and built in 1896 to allow the riverboats easy passage.

Stop at the Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement, Australia's first outdoor museum, which has a fascinating collection of tractors and old farm machinery and take a cruise on the P.S. Pyap, an original working paddleboat steamer from the exciting riverboat days.

Interpretive signs along the trail give an insight into the steamboat era, as well as the natural environment and the local Aboriginal communities' long association with the area.

The walk can be started from anywhere along its length and completed as a whole or in sections.
