Mount Evelyn Aqueduct Walk (Mount Evelyn)

Mount Evelyn Aqueduct Walk (Mount Evelyn)

The Mount Evelyn Aqueduct Walk uses part of the Mount Evelyn Aqueduct which once cut the town of Mount Evelyn in two.

The The Mount Evelyn Aqueduct Walk is 7.2km in length one way and requires moderate to high level of fitness. The walking time is about 2.5 hours.

The eastern end of the walking track is near the Olinda Creek Track and goes in a northerly direction from Hunter Road, near Monbulk Road (Map: 120 Ref: G7). The track passes through Mount Evelyn and ends on the Swansea Road Map: (38 Ref: H12). The open Aqueduct disappears underground in pipes where it crosses Priestly Crescent.

Review:

We started at the Swansea Road end (near house # 250) which is near a bus stop. Initially there is a steep climb up a grassy hill and then the trail levels off to a gravel path with houses on the side of the path. Opposite Wedderburn Grove is a playground and basketball court. After a while you reach the busy York Road near the Mount Evelyn Shopping Centre where there are shops and cafes. Next to the train station in the town (small deviation from the trail) is a water tap, shelter with table and BBQs.

After crossing York Road there is more shielding from the trees and less intrusiveness from the houses. There were plenty of birds and butterflies along this part of the route.
